I am a freelance web developer, data analyst and trainer. I have recently been deeply involved in the analysis of mobile phone data to develop travel model matrices. This involves the querying of huge databases of individual, anonymised, phone records to build up a picture of travel patterns in a region. See my transport planning CV for further details.
I develop Intranet site applications integrating web pages into corporate databases and legacy systems. I am a Certified Novell Administrator (CNA). I have been using Internet technologies since the beginning of the web in 1993, and have been training web development technologies since 1996.
I produce training course notes and courseware. I advise and train companies in the use of Internet technologies for development of corporate Intranets, web sites, and using the Internet for marketing and customer support.
I am one of the authors of Dreamweaver MX Unleashed (Sams), writing the chapters about advanced server side development and ColdFusion. I was also an author of the Readers Digest book How To Do Just About Anything on a Computer.I write for MacUser magazine and Internet.Works on Internet and business application software. I have an engineering background, and I still do Transport Modelling work for major transport authorities and consultants.
My courses use practical sessions and problem scenarios to teach delegates how to utilise various Web solutions. The pros and cons of each solution is discussed, taking into consideration issues of cross platform compatibility. I have created Advanced Web Development courses for EDS, Safeways, and Zurich Insurance amongst others. These courses have been tailored to specific client requirements.
Some of the courses I offer are listed on my course list page

I have developed ASP based Intranet applications for clients that range from blue-chip technology companies to local authorities, including:
Developed a transport demand forecasting model for Docklands Light Rail that interfaced with a GIS system. The client required a model that was easy for staff members to use and produced reliable results that could be exported to other applications such as Excel and Access. Users can enter and edit development sites, land uses and trip rates to produce trip forecasts by mode, time period and year. The model is able to constrain growth over user defined areas, or Boroughs. The database is Microsoft SQL Server, with a web based front end in ASP.NET. I wrote the specification, developed the back end database and user interface, and wrote the user documentation.
Internet property-search database for voluntary organisations. (see http://www.voluntaryaction-wf.org.uk/venues/)
Internal job vacancies and on-line job application.
Internal stationary supplies ordering system.
Online Local Authority Grants Register and Application system.
Company contact lists

I have also helped banking and insurance sector clients develop data driven Internet sites using ASP, Coldfusion, DHTML and JavaScript.
